Solvent for diluting Polyester Resins and Gel Coats.
Solvent for diluting Polyester Resins and Gel Coats.
Styrene is used in production of unsaturated resins, Gel Coats and other coatings. It pre-exists in the afore mentioned materials, as a basic ingredient, in a ratio of 30-40%.
In some cases can be used additionally as a diluent of Polyester, Gel Coat, Top Coat. When a resin is thinned with styrene becomes even more fluid and impregnating. This serves for the purpose of priming a wood, or a porous surface before lamination.
Also used (if required) to dilute (5-8%) Gel Coat when applied with a spray gun.
In case of castings, styrene is also necessary with certain types of resins mixed then with fillers (alabaster, quartz etc.)
Caution: Volatile liquid with strong odour, flammable.

- As a solvent for cases where we want to reduce the viscosity of a material.
- In productions of products containing a large amount of powders.
- In cases where the starting material to be used for production, has a low concentration of Styrene and adding additives in the desired amount is difficult.
- In cases where we have weathered polyester at our disposal, due to long-term storage
