Shimano Hyper Breathe 5000
Shimano Hyper Breathe 5000 is a specially developed outdoor fabric which has multiple layers of a tough hydrophilic polyurethane coating. The pores are hundreds of times larger than gaseous water vapor molecules. This allows perspiration driven by body heat, to escape through the garment. In conjunction, the pores are thousands of times smaller than liquid water molecules. This prevents the elements from penetrating the fabric, thus providing the active person with dry, comfortable protective garment.
The Shimano Hyper Breathe 5000 is engineered to be totally windproof and waterproof. Closures, pockets, sleeves and hoods are designed to keep the elements out under severe weather conditions. All stitched seams are taped to insure waterproofness. Multiple washings will not damage the effectiveness of the garment’s waterproof, windproof or breathable characteristics.
The Shimano Hyper Breathe 5000 fabrics allow 5,000g of moisture to pass through it, giving it a breathability rating of 5,000g/24hrs.
Shimano tests how waterproof its fabric is by using a hydrostatic waterhead. This is measured by pulling the Hyper Breathe 5000 fabric tightly over a tube. The tube is then filled with water and the amount of water that leaks through the fabric after a 24 hour period is then measured. The height of the water column, in millimeters, is the hydrostatic waterhead measurement.
