It is not a spoon and neither a metallic jig. Maetel, by world known Light Spinning oriented Japanese company Tict, combines virtues from both types of lures in something totally innovative. Compared to jigs made of lead, it is lighter, but bulkier. Its weight combined with its uniquely asymmetric body shape, it produces a tricky swimming stance which can not be imitated by other metal lures.

This Japanese jig by company Tict, is widely used in the domestic Japanese market, for Rock fishing and Trout fishing. In other European markets, these truly top-class tackles are also used in micro-fishing and Trout fishing in lakes and rivers. Nevertheless the Tict Maetel should be regarded as a lure specifically designed for the sea, which has also found its way in fresh water fishing, with enormous success.

The Maetel is a rear, to mid-weighted metallic spoon / jig ideal for predators like White Sea Breams, Saddled Sea Breams, Ajis, Mackerels and pelagic species like Bonitoes and False Albacores. Its range starts at 1.5 gr and goes all the way up to 14 gr, covering most fishing techniques from Ultra to Light and Hard Rock Fishing. Even during our first try with this lure, White Sea Breams were caught, showing great interest to it. This fish is known to be very selective and smart, so that says a lot about the Maetel.

We tested the Zebra models which emit a dim glowing effect and delicately repeat a flashing pattern. On one side, the Zebra models have glowing stripes and on the other is has a single, evenly distributed, metallic color.

This style of spinner, when on the move, mimics a small baitfish that swims quickly and flashes erratically. It is armed with a strong hook with reaction tinsels that mimic a small fish tail.

One can use the Tict Maetel very easily, just like a spoon. It can be casted really far and then simply retrieve it at a steady pace, alternating the retrieval speed and allowing it to move either on a horizontal axis, or let it sink and retrieve it again. Feel free to experiment by jerking and twitching it just like a jig. Having one side flat, the Tict Maetel can also be used as a slow jig, leaving it to work its way during pausing and on the drop. Try "Slow Fall", "Irregular Darting", “Twitching”, or “Jerking” and decide on your favorite action. During a slow and steady retrieve, when the Mini Maetel meets the water current, an unexpected imbalanced action occurs, that provokes the response of nearby predators. In addition, if you try a high speed retrieval with the rod’s tip pointing upwards, you will easily create a skipping effect of a panicked, top water jig. Depending on the technique you will use, you can target different species with the Maetel.

The Japanese field testers suggest the following action, depending on the species you are after:

Seabass – Slow and steady retrieve, with lift & fall

Flounder - Repeat lift and fall near the bottom

Red Sea Bream - Slow to steady retrieve, close to the bottom

Migrating species - High-speed retrieve and skipping, panic action close to the surface with flashy actions, such as jerking and twitching are recommended.

We recommend to our Rock Fishing enthusiasts friends, not to replace the single with a treble hook, as its original format is very delicately balanced and is made to hook and grasp fish in a proper manner. The hook plus the tinsels look very lively when the lure is being retrieved. Just cast the Tict Maetel and enjoy the variety of options this multi-lure has to offer.

As you can expect from a Made in Japan lure, the Tict Maetel, is a high quality lure, with coating resistant to stones and seawater corrosion. They are available in various colors and weights. The only option you need to consider is whether it comes with a single hook, without a hook, or a hook with a tinsel.
