Very few can boast true long casting ability and realistic looks the way Zipbaits can, with its Βοοn 135F.
Almost every lure manufacturer advertises how long their lures can cast and how realistic they look. But the pursuit of the right body and lip shape and weight balance, that cannot be affected by the wind, is not an easy task. Very few can boast true long casting ability and realistic looks the way Zipbaits can, with its Βοοn 135F. The Zip Baits ZBL Minnow 135F Boon is a floating minnow, that brings an overwhelming distance in every fishing scene, for a bait this size.
The ZipBaits Boon comes at 135mm and 24gr and in a very interesting range of colors, with emphasis on the so called “natural” looking ones. It is rigged with two Cultiva ST-46, size 3 treble hooks. The secret behind the incredible casting distance it can achieve and the great stability it has, in all kinds of retrieves lays is the Mag Drive Technology, an internal, magnetic weight transfer system.
In addition, the slightly bulky body displaces a lot of water and creates a strong vibration, making its presence known even in currents and breaking waves. The lip is also of hydrodynamic profile and further assists the lure in casting even further and maintaining a very smooth underwater action, that is easy and effortless even during long fishing sessions.
The Boon 135F is a versatile lure, that enables the angler to use it with many, different approaches. Check out its very smooth movement, from dead slow retrieve, to even crazy-speed retrieves and observe how it loses none of its stability. When their internal weight is being “locked” in the front part, it offers exceptional swimming action during jerks and twitches.
One could argue that this is the perfect silent lure for Seabass, but due to the great distances it can reach, during our tests, it has lured pelagic species, such as Bonitos that tend to feed quite away from the shore. The Zipbaits Βoon has “unlocked” difficult and spooked fish, such as Barracudas in over-fished areas. In short, it is the basic minnow lure, absolutely essential to explore the potential of a new place, but also ideal to try old spots with a totally new tool in our disposal.
Long casts, steady retrievals, stability in jerks and twitches, it’s all there in the Ζipbaits Βoon 135F.

The Mag Drive is divided into four parts. There are four main weights, magnets, slide shafts, and catch plates. The main weight and the magnet are glued together, passed through the slide shaft, and fixed to the steel plate at the front, by magnetic force. When casting the lure, the centrifugal force of the lure causes the weight integrated with the magnet, to separate from the catch plate and move to the rear of the lure, stabilizing the flight posture.
After casting, if the lure is pulled by the line, the lip will bite the water and the lure will lean forward. The weight and the magnet move forward and get attached to the front catch plate, by magnetic force. When the main weight is fixed to the front, the lure can swim in a stable posture, even in places with large waves and fast currents. Magnets play an important role for the Mag Drive technology. As the name of the Mag Drive indicates (Mag = Magnetic Force), Mag Drive will not work without a magnet.
A magnetic washer has been installed between the front steel plate and the magnet, to ensure optimal magnetic force for each item.
The center shaft, which controls the extra movement of the weight as it moves, plays an important role in the action of the lure, as it does not cause sideway shakes. Several kinds of materials have been tested by Zipbaits. Bronze is excellent in abrasion resistance, but if you want to emphasize the flight distance, stainless steel should be used and the position of the moving weight to be controlled by magnetic force.
At the lure design stage, Zipbaits combined various weights and types of magnets to determine the optimal combination for each lure.
