Yamashita Ego OH Live Search Deep

World famous Japanese company Yamashita (야마시타), presents the Egi-Oh Live Deep squid jigs (에기), that will become a standard choice for all anglers fishing squid and cuttlefish, either from the shore, or from the boat. The Egi-Oh Q Live Search are made from top materials and the Egi-Oh Series have upgraded Yamashita (야마시타) to one of the top squid brands worldwide. Nowadays, with even more innovations incorporated in their products, Yamashita (야마시타) will, quite simply, keep up the lead.

Currently there are two models of the same squid jig in the market, both in size 3.5. The older model weighs 22.5 gr and the newer model 23.5 gr. With a sinking speed of about 1.8 seconds / m up to 2.2 seconds / m, it is the fastest sinking Yamashita model of the Egi King series, that makes it easy to attack the deeper levels of the water column. It is effective in situations where the currents are strong and it is difficult for a squid jig to reach the desired depth and gets washed away by waves and the wind.

One visible difference between the older and the newer version is that the 22.5 gr model has a hole on its external sinker, most probably reducing the weight by 1 gr. The guide hole for weight tuning is provided on the side of the sinker and advanced users can also adjust the jig’s own weight if they want to go deeper, or to make the jig lighter. The 23.5 gr model has a solid sinker.

When you hear the term “Deep", you may falsely develop the notion that this squid jig is to be used solely in deep areas. Wrong. The term deep is more accurately described as “fast tempo” when actively seeking for the strike zone of squid jigs. Hence the Yamashita Live Search Deep can be utilised in many ways. One is an approach when you need to quickly explore an area, even if this is shallow. A fastly sinking squid jig, will enable the angler to quickly explore the potential of the area he is aiming at, regardless of the maximum depth. In other words, fast tempo in a shallow area.

The second way in which this squid jig can help you “unlock” the potential of an area, is by changing the sinking tempo of the lure, when cephalopods seem uninterested in slow sinking squid jigs.

Yamashita (야마시타) has done its own, environment friendly research to generate the rattle sound that attracts squids. The rattle sound technology has already been incorporated in the Live Search squid jigs (에기). With the Q Live Search 490 Deep models, Yamashita (야마시타) further enhances the searching ability of the squid baits, this time by enhancing their visual aids.

Aiming for a sharper motion, the material and shape of the Egi Oh Live Deep were reviewed from the beginning. This “blade sharp sinker” with the shape of a boat’s keel, was born, after repeatedly being tested through trial and error. Yamashita improved the swimming performance of the previous “Egi King Q Live”, so that it tears the water like a sharpened blade and brings the Egi to life. After you cast the Yamashita (야마시타) Live Deep, you will quickly realize how unforcefully and smoothly the Egi stops once you pause the retrieve and how quickly it sinks to the action zone. This provides you with ultimate control over your bait. This also means that you fish more, as if you cast your squid jig (에기) at a 50 m distance you will be able to act between 150 and 200 in each cast.

One of the innovations introduced in the Yamashita (야마시타) Live Deep is the success in reducing forward movement by 33%, while maintaining the wide range of the previous Live squid jig (에기). By introducing the center of gravity at a lower point in the squid jig’s body, compared to the conventional Live, the movement performance has improved and the flight posture during casting is stable.

Yamashita (야마시타) got the idea of visual search by determining – through extensive research - what the most visible color to squid jigs (에기). In its studies, Yamashita (야마시타) also approached the field of vision of Squids and Cuttle fish. The company wanted to understand what kind of light is more effective and it found out that light emissions around 490nm (nanometers) are perceived more easily by cephalopods. Thus it developed the 490 Glow innovation and made Egi-Oh Q Live Search squid jigs to emit light in this precise wave length. The results of Yamashita's (야마시타) research indicated that "light” is the most visible stimuli to squids. When it comes to colors, the most appealing color combination is the blue-green at a wave length of about 490nm (nanometers) that blends in with the natural (내추럴) environment and is similar to that of the human eye. Hence the addition of number 490 in the squid jig's (에기) name.

Yamashita (야마시타) equipped the Live Deep jigs with Red eyeballs and feathers, that make them easily identifiable in a case full of squid jigs (에기). The Eyeball has been developed with the 490 Glow technology, emitting a luminescent color, easily identifiable by squids.

Yamashita (야마시타) developed a warm jacket for the Ego Live Deep squid jigs (에기). Cephalopods can distinguish their prey even by tiny variations in the prey’s body temperature. These differences from the surrounding temperature can be as small as 0,5⁰C or 1⁰C. The Warm jacket can retain heat much longer than any other fabric and thus, when we “charge” our squid jig (에기) with a UV flash light, the temperature created by the UV light emission, or even by simply holding the jig in our palm for a while, can generate the extra temperature that we need.
