Meet the chic and simple N°08, made in deep black Ebony.
Meet the chic and simple Opinel N°08, made in deep black Ebony.
Ebony is one of the most valuable and expensive types of wood in the world; prized for its dark heartwood. Traditionally, Ebony has been used for charcoal, native carvings, combs, needles, cups and knife handles. Because of its high density, texture and waxiness, it is ideal for the production of woodwind musical instruments like clarinets and is a superior wood for holding the metal fittings of guitar fret boards.
The Opinel Ebony is available in a gift box.

Sandvik Stainless Steel
We use Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% gives excellent cutting edge.
Mirror-Finish Blade
The blade has a polished mirror finish while the double polishing provides a mirror effect.
Handle
Ebony is a rare and luxurious wood from the forests of Africa. A beautiful, deep black, ebony with high density is traditionally used in marquetry.
Safety Ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the N° 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport).
Cleaning
With your Opinel open, run warm water on the blade and wipe with a sponge and washing-up liquid. Rinse the blade with warm water while taking care not to soak the wooden handle. Leave the blade to dry before closing (this is not necessary for plastic handles).
Important: Do not immerse your knife in water as this could warp the wooden handle.
