Handmade Octopus Rig

Traditional, handmade octopus rig, made entirely in the same way, such rigs were made in the old days. If you want to fish Octopus the same way older generations used to, this rig is ready. Drop it in the water and start fishing.

The handmade octopus rig comprises of a wooden, also handmade quadruple hook. The wooden hook, due to its floating properties, stands almost vertically as you are pulling the rig behind your boat, hence avoid tangles.

The rig includes 5, or 6 plastic, or stainless steel artificial fish silhouettes, depending on whether you prefer color, or the light reflecting effect of the inox material. The fish are tied together with Kevlar thread.

Attracting octopus can be accomplished in two ways: either by the motion of the artificial fish and the shaking up of the sand, or by the sound produced by the metallic fishes along with the chain.

This kind of octopus fishing is done from the boat, at very slow speed, taking care for the angle of the line in relevance to the water surface, to be around 45^ο. We prefer to fish where rocks end and sandy areas with sea weed starts.

To enhance the effectiveness of your rig, you can add fresh fish that emits odors that trigger the reaction of octopus.
