Thin, very light Chopped Strand Mat is the most established and ubiquitous reinforcement in composites, used in laminations, repairs and almost any other in-mold, or out-mold construction. It is considered the most basic reinforcement material of any polyester construction. It is also ideal as a first layer reinforcement, after Gel Coat in in-mold constructions. It can also be used in successive layers, without other reinforcements. However, in the cases where thicknesses is required, several layers should be laid.

The Chopped Strand Mat is a dry mat, of randomly oriented, evenly distributed, very thin glass fibers, of approximately 5 cm, held together by some form of binder, which breaks down as they are laminated. They offer high mechanical strength to the final product, are easy to work with and extremely effective at creating strong, durable composite structures. It is a very thin material that can be incorporated in the most complex surfaces. It is compatible and can be impregnated with all polyester and vinyl resins. It also fuses perfectly with all other types of fabrics (W.R, Combimat, Multiaxial) and Core materials.
