Undeniably the most anticipated release in recent Daiwa history, the 2023 Saltiga spinning reels, represent the epitome of Daiwa technological advancements. This reel, specific to saltwater fishing benefits from the Airdrive Design technology, around the key parts of the rotor, the spool and the axis, to achieve a reduction in weight, an increase in resistance, robustness and reliability.

They are tough and they are technical reels for in-shore fishing. This is a long anticipated, new generation of Saltiga reels, available in smaller sizes (5000 & 6000).

The development of the Daiwa Saltiga has been based around two central ideas: To offer overwhelming “Power and Toughness" and " Free Rotation and Operability" to battle the largest trophies and help anglers reach new personal records. The Daiwa 2023 Saltiga signifies the birth of a new era, of high-spec spinning reels.

Equipped with a large-diameter, G1 Duralumin Machine Cut, tough gear, on a full metal Monocoque body, the Saltiga achieves exceptional winding strength. And the Airdrive Rotor, combines "Strength" and "Low Inertia" while at the same time improves the overall sensitivity of the reel, transmitting information about the changing currents, changes in lure behavior due to fish tracking.

The Winding Strength of the 23 Daiwa Saltiga reels, has made a big leap compared to other reels, of the same size. The technology that contributes the most to achieving this incomparable performance is the "Full Metal Monocoque Body". Conventional spinning reels, generally support both ends of the drive gear and fix them with screws at several locations. Aiming to further improve accuracy and rigidity, the body cover was abolished and a high-precision plate was directly screwed into the body to mount it on the Monocoque body. This increased gear support accuracy and also improved rigidity and air-tightness.Furthermore, by utilizing the space previously taken up by the screws, Daiwa has succeeded in maximizing the size of the Drive Gear.

Daiwa also continued working on improving the rotation response of the spinning reel rotor. The Airdrive Rotor has been designed with focus to create a perfectly round structure, trouble free and flawless rotation. Daiwa has derived a new Rotor shape, that looks as if it were cut out of a sphere. By thoroughly scraping off unnecessary material, Daiwa succeeded in significantly reducing weight, while maintaining rigidity. As a result, the lightness of unwinding, which leads to improved operability and sensitivity, has been dramatically improved.

For many years, the Bail Arm mounted on Daiwa spinning reels was a hollow structure, to make it lighter and rigid. In addition, the unique shape smoothly guided the line, to the line roller, enabling trouble-free unwinding. The Air Drive Bail has been made even thinner, to achieve further weight reduction, while maintaining the required strength. In addition, the line is inclined to the optimum angle, that allows a smoother transition from the bail arm to the line roller. 

For the 2023 Saltiga reels, the optimum bail diameter has been selected for each reel size. The 6000 size is Φ3.0mm with an emphasis on strength and rigidity. The 4000/5000 size have been designed with a diameter of 2.4mm, with an emphasis on low inertia of the rotor unit, so that more underwater information can be obtained. Daiwa also paid attention to the opening and closing of the bail arm, so that it opens and closes firmly.

The 5000-H Saltiga reel is recommended for Shore Casting games, Light Jigging, and Light Offshore Casting fishing that use PE 1.5 to 2.5. Regardless of the weight of the lure, or its resistance in the water, the 5000-H model incorporates a rigid, full metal Monocoque body, equipped with a large-diameter G1 duralumin MC tough gear and achieves a maximum drag force of 15 kg.

The 6000-H Saltiga reel is the best match for Offshore Jigging & Casting games using PE2 to PE3 and Shore Casting games. Highly versatile, this item is the most recommended for both shore and offshore anglers. Excellent usability in Bonito games, the 6000-H is equipped with a full metal Monocoque body that achieves amazing torque and a large diameter gear.

By creating a wall of magnetic liquid in the gaps between the ball bearings, all the small parts that make the rotating motion smooth, are protected from seawater and foreign matter entering. The very first performance of a Magshield ball bearing, can be maintained for a long period of time.

Anglers demand reels that can maintain solid performance even in extreme environments. However, waterproofing the winding mechanism entails some extremely difficult problems. This is because in order for winding to take place, there must be space inside the body for objects to rotate. If that space is closed up for waterproofing purposes, rotational performance will be lost. This problem was solved by an approach that “used liquid to block liquids.” This is Daiwa’s unique Magsealed technology, which uses magnetism to create a semi-permanent wall of MagSeal Oil that prevents seawater and dust from gaining entry to the reel’s interior. Revealed in 2010, this groundbreaking technology has been used for line rollers and ball bearings, and continues to achieve demonstrable results in terms of durability by dramatically lowering the number of product repair cases. In the Saltiga, the pinion shaft and line roller use Magsealed technology, in addition to Magsealed ball bearings on both ends of the drive gear.

The Saltiga 23 features a new generation of an ATD drag system. By impregnating the high-density carbon washer, with high-performance and high-durability oil, it eliminates the initial inertia at the beginning of the drag effect, even at high drag settings. This improves the initial drag system response, by lowering the peak of the drag force upon hook setting. The ATD Type-L allows anglers to have more control of the drag, without stress during the fight, by not overloading the line and also causing less stress to the fish.

Manual Bail Arm Return - To completely prevent the Bail Arm return during casting and improve durability, Daiwa installed a manual return mechanism, that does not allow the bail arm to close, when the handle is rotated.

Rotor Brake - When the bail arm is open, a brake force is applied to the rotation of the rotor.

Winding Reference Line – The Saltiga spool comes with a convenient reference line for winding braid.

Continuous Anti-reverse - By removing the stopper, the body structure has been simplified. The decision to remove the stopper, which is the entry path for water and foreign matter, improves the waterproof performance of the reel and also minimizes the chances of suddenly encountering trouble when interacting with large objects.

Handle – A 65mm is used for the 4000/5000 reel sizes, which are mainly used for Light Shore Casting games and Offshore games. For the 6000 Saltiga, a 70mm handle has been used.

Aluminum Round Knob L Size = Φ42mm is used for the 5000 and 6000 reels.
