Major Craft Egizaust 5G IKA Metal Rod

The 5G is a rod manufacturing method, adopting the "R360 Structure" on which the development of the Major Craft Egizaust 5G IKA Metal Rod has been based. Under the 5G rod development concept, the carbon fiber orientation is arranged toward all axis directions:

• Straight – Vertical
• Side – Horizontal
• Fade - Diagonal Right
• Draw - Diagonal Left

The arrangement of Carbon fibers in all directions have created a ultra-lightweight blank, that combines power and torque. Unlike the conventional carbon tape reinforcement on the blank’s surface, the blank itself is composed of carbon sheets, laid in the multi-axis directions. It is a blank structure that can respond to any force applied in a 360° degrees angle, hence it helps the rod’s blank section adopt to the situation.

For the development of the 5G rods, Major Craft utilized the T1100G carbon sheets by Toray Industries. The T1100G is a nano-level carbon fiber material, that achieves both high strength and high elasticity. It is a latest technology carbon material, used in the field of aerospace, or in aircraft applications (such as the tail of planes and floor beams of Boeing 777s), where extreme performance is required. The difference between the T1100G Torayca® material and other composite materials is that when compared (Load vs Strain), they both behave identically until the maximum load, after which the T1100G resin shows a significant increase in energy absorption, offering 13% higher-strength and 10% higher-elasticity.

The Ika Metal fishing style, has been popular particularly in Japan, as a technique performed from the boat and targets Cephalopods (Squids, Short Fin Squids and Cuttlefish). Although it a relatively fresh fishing technique in the Mediterranean, the public who love squid fishing, have embraced it, enjoying a technical and at the same time efficient way of fishing their favorite catch.

The Ika Metal is a fishing style in which the fisherman must give life to his Ika jig, with Long Fall and Slow Pitch moves, just as he would when fishing Slow Jigging. Major Craft has developed the Egizaust 5G rod series, to include models exclusively for the Ika Metal style.

In the making of the Egizaust 5G IKA Metal rod, in addition to the high quality materials used, Major Craft focused on the functionality element, which is demonstrated by the length of 7’4’’ feet, a length that will facilitates the angler into performing Slow Pitch and Long Fall moves. Major Craft made a rod that is very sensitive, but with a reserve of strength in the blank, due to the R360 technology, which will transmit to the fishermen the feeling of even the tiniest touch, from small, or weary Cephalopods, but will also bring to the boat big size squids.

For the Major Craft Egizaust 5G Ika Metal blank, four layers of high and medium density Carbon fibers have been used, Fuji Guides with SiC ceramic material and K Frame, Fuji VSS reel seat and EVA anti-slip material. The Egizaust 5G Ika Metal rod series is mounted with Spinning reels.

The EZ5IM-S742H / OMORIG rod has been built to work with Omorig type of rigs, with Ika lures up to 180g (号 50). The Omorig rig consists of an Egi (#2.5 - #3.0) and an Ika Metal, or lead, preferably fluorescent. Thanks to its design, this rod will enable us to feel even the smallest touch from the smallest, or weary squid. Due to its length, the rod will easily respond to Slow Pitch and Long Fall technical movements, having a Regular Fast action.

The EZ5IM-S742H / OMORIG rod has been built to perform at its best, when the need for large sized Ika lures, is an one-way street. It will work exemplary sizes around 100g (号12 to 50), deeper than 70m, where the currents are strong and a heavier Ika is necessary. Having a Regular Fast action, it will manage to bring lightly caught Squids to the surface, without tearing their delicate tentacles. If your fishing takes place in deep water, in areas with strong currents, there is no doubt that the EZ5IM-S742H / OMORIG was made for this purpose.
